Back to the Family Farm
For Regan, the COVID era brought her back to her family’s South Dakota farm and gave her an opportunity to become more involved in the operation. But farming is only one part of the business she has built.
Regan started The Cactus Brand while she was still in high school, turning her interest in fashion and creativity into a growing business. Today, she continues to balance the brand with life on the farm, proving that agriculture and entrepreneurship don’t have to exist in separate worlds.
Andrea’s path back to agriculture looked different.
She originally planned to become a veterinarian, but that journey ultimately led her back to her family’s Minnesota farm. Today, her life includes cattle, crops, content creation, personal training, public speaking, agritourism—and even a few fainting goats.
Neither path followed a perfectly straight line, and that’s exactly the point.
Showing Consumers What Agriculture Really Looks Like
One of the deeper conversations in this episode centers around the growing disconnect between farmers and consumers.
Andrea discusses her decision to become more vocal about feedlots and modern livestock production. Too often, consumers are presented with outdated or oversimplified images of what agriculture looks like.
Rather than allowing someone else to tell agriculture’s story, Andrea believes farmers need to be willing to show up and share it themselves.
And that doesn’t always mean bombarding people with statistics.

Consumers may never understand every decision made on a farm, but giving them an opportunity to see the people, animals, businesses, and families behind their food can help close that gap.
Women Belong in Agriculture
Andrea and Regan also talk about what it means to be women working in an industry that has traditionally been male dominated.
From operating equipment to managing livestock and building businesses, both women have experienced assumptions about what they should—or shouldn’t—be doing.
Their approach is simple: give people the opportunity to prove what they’re capable of.
That message becomes especially important when talking about the next generation. Encouraging daughters and other young women to participate in the farm can start with something as simple as giving them a chance to learn, try, fail, and eventually master the same jobs as anyone else.
Changing Your Plans Isn't Failure
Andrea also shares the personal story behind one of the messages she frequently talks about publicly: changing your plans doesn't make you a failure.
The career or life someone imagines at 18 may look completely different by 25, 30, or 40.
That doesn't mean the original plan failed.
Sometimes the experiences gained while chasing one goal are exactly what prepare someone for the opportunity they eventually discover.
Regan’s story carries a similar message. Farming, fashion, entrepreneurship, and creativity might seem like completely different worlds, but she has found a way to bring them together.
You don't have to choose a single lane just because that's what people expect.
Build a Life That Fits You
